Lulu Zou
Lulu worked in the energy industry in different capacities around the world. As an engineer, she drilled the world’s longest horizontal well. As a planner, she oversaw ExxonMobil’s $5B annual drilling budget. This enables her to manage portfolio companies as a PE investor with a focus on long-term strategy and a practical problem-solving approach. Under her watch, companies have enjoyed a 64% YoY profit uplift or 7x revenue growth. Lulu has a BSc. in Electrics from Peking University and an MSc. in Electrical Engineering from Kassel University.
Lulu brings to SkiesFifty a deep understanding of traditional energy providers’ perspectives, experience in long-term project management, and the sweet spot between investors and target companies.
As an investment principal, Lulu is responsible for identifying targets, conducting due diligence at different phases, and proposing suitable transaction structures.
Why is sustainability in aviation so important to you?
Aviation is only 2.5% of global carbon emissions but receives more than its fair share of criticism. As an energy industry veteran, I believe this could be a true opportunity, where sustainable aviation turns the publicity around as an opportunity to lead a wider energy transition that is so needed by all industries and our world.
What excites you about the SkiesFifty mission?
Sustainability in aviation can only be achieved through collaboration across the entire value chain, from fuel providers to aircraft manufacturers to airport operators. And this is exactly what SkiesFifty is for - targeting the complex issue with maximum flexibility.
How do you balance life with work?
My husband and I have both lived in a dozen countries and have enjoyed different cultures around the world. We always have crazy travel plans involving lots of outdoor activities. Work is my way to exercise the logical and analytical parts of my brain.

Tchaikovsky’s symphonies. I like music that is deep, profound, and full of complex emotions.
